cranksgiving 2023

With a former organizer offering the opportunity for us, the nycbma had exactly one month to curate the annual grassroots food drive on two wheels known as, Cranksgiving NYC, for 2023! In that amount of time, we reached out to locals for their support and sponsorship, for which we are so grateful for 🧡 It’s always amazing to see what a community can unconditionally do for some DIY fun, whilst benefiting food banks, charities, and shelters.

For those unaware, there’s no checkpoint workers, and no entry fee for this ride. Money provided by participants is used for purchasing select items to donate (non-perishable foods, some pies, turkeys, spuds, hygiene products, etc) - some was to be placed in community fridges, with the majority handsomely donated to Bowery Mission.

Amongst forty one racers, there were 12 teams, eight first time racers(!), 15 sponsors, and $1,439.89 collectively spent for the aforementioned donations. We like to think this was a most excellent success, and hope you do too! Our first time doing a fun drive to benefit, and look forward to doing more of these. We thank everyone that helped spread the word of this event, contributed, and being present 🫶
