in collaboration with central park raccoons & deadfuckinglastnyc, nycbma hosted a new original race, exclusive for fat-tires - Cobble Crit!

“What qualifies for ‘fat-tires’”, you may ask? Your choice along the following:

- MTB 26r-29rs
- BMX
- beach cruisers & klunkers
- CX & tracklocross

This is an open fixed course. Podium winners selected by who’s the fastest between open category and WTfemmes.

Promoted lowkey with high anticipation, we kinda expected for little to no spectators, assuming it would pose a risk, getting shut down early. Well, 5-0 showed up to sound off the bell of the last lap for the final heat, and that perhaps couldn’t have been better timing. Guests that came to watch kindly participated by marshaling the tight corners, blocking moving traffic, and raged on for the fastest riders that night. Honestly, that was probably the best part of this whole night - the collective participation and engagement of everyone there!!

This race consisted of two (2) qualifying heats of four (4) laps, and a final heat, consisting of six (6) laps; each field sharing open and femme/nb categories, with lots of different bikes used (klunkers, beach cruisers, bmx, MTB, tracklocross, cx, gravel and the like). Fat knobby tires for the cold cobble stone streets of Dumbo. Lights, helmet, and quick action, all from 9:30-10:30 (ish). To the twenty seven pre-reg’d racers, thank you! To those that showed up, trying to register in person, we hope you’ll join us at the next Cobble Crit!
