BETWEEN JUNETEETH AND FATHER’S DAY, WE HAD THE PLEASURE OF CO-HOSTING THE FIFTH EDITION OF NARCCCS. a beautiful afternoon with clear skies and mild wind, we coordinated once again at the center of tompkins park, the hare krishna tree. a modest group of about 20 participants, including two femme racing the simulated serve race. different from the typical alleycat, racers shake dice to determine their next checkpoint, being the “customer” or “client”, sometimes having to return to the same checkpoint a number a times, or another checkpoint if at all. consisting of ninety (90) minutes, racers need to collect the most amount of “cash” to determine how much “weed” they sold. Runners had to avoid given “faker” cash from their customers/clients, thus penalizing, and points deducted for every five minutes late, not arriving at the finish.
Upon fishing, the bma managed to hold down a makeshift area to bbq underneath the williamsburg bridge in east river park. racers finishing pulled up with their manifest, “money” in exchange of good complimentary food for their efforts, in addition to our checkpoint volunteers.
